The roundabout itself would be replaced by a T-junction controlled by lights and there would be a new controlled crossing on the south side of the bridge. In this way, Hampton Court Way would become much easier to cross. Additionally, a pedestrian link under the south end of Hampton Court Bridge could be established as an integral part of the redevelopment.
The roundabout site is owned by Surrey County Council. As part of the public domain, it would be a straightforward matter to arrange for development rights to be transferred from the Jolly Boatman site. In this way the Jolly Boatman site will be preserved from encroaching development with views of Hampton Court and the river preserved.
