St Michael's is a ruined church on hill top near Taunton in Somerset, owned by the National Trust.
I carried out a quinquennial survey of the church in 1999 and arranged for a further inspection of the top of the tower to be carried out by rope access in 2000.
The church was found to be in generally sound condition, although the protection to the wall tops at the top of the tower were found by the rope workers to be severely decayed.
Minor holding repairs were carried out in 2000. I made further proposals for repairs to the upper parts of the tower in 2003. Proposals including: repair of mortar weatherings at the top of the tower and localised repointing.
The sketch shows the proposals for repairs to the upper parts of the tower, which were described in more detail in the project specification. The repairs have now been carried out by the National Trust.
